Office

Alamosa County Services Center
8900 Independence Way
Alamosa, Colorado
Architect: Mark M. Jones, Associates
Completed: December 2002

Summary: Colorado Construction self-performed the steel erection and construction for this building which is used primarily for administrative offices, public health nursing services and community use. This incredible structure is a total of 19,500 sq. ft. with a second floor of 6500 sq. ft. for future growth or expansion.

Several workshop sessions were held initially with the County, Social Services, Public Health/Nursing Services and Colorado Construction. The goal was to develop a building that served the needs of the individuals who worked there and the people they served.

Colorado Construction had several roles in this project. They worked as general contractor, project manager, construction manager and supervised all the subcontractors. Construction manager, Neil Tringham, worked closely with all entities involved in the project. Because of their collaboration there was less confusion and the entire team worked together efficiently and smoothly. All were in agreement with process. The team was on time and within budget for every phase of the project.

Summary: Valley-Wide Health Systems, Inc. is a national leader in the healthcare field, and a model for comprehensive, community-based healthcare in rural Colorado. The building design was a challenge of modernizing and upgrading a 30-year-old commercial space into a beautiful and luxurious building. The structure houses administration, business office, human resources, data entry, information systems, purchasing, maintenance, storage, dental records, a dental clinic, and the SLV Community Connections program.

The architect, Albert Moore, worked closely with VWHS administration, employees and Colorado Construction. The building design reflects the corporate logo - the Medicine Wheel. Architectural elements accentuate the circular design of the Medicine Wheel throughout this rural health system headquarters.
